Internet users are soon going to be offered a better browser, which will improve their surfing experience. This new browser apparently offers the fastest browsing speed as yet.

The browser, christened Opera 10.5, is going to be the latest offering from Opera. Compared with the earlier Opera 10.10, this is supposed to be eight times faster.

This news, brought to light by Computerworld, the computer news magazine, has been confirmed by the magazine’s own testing team. The magazine put Opera 10.5 through benchmark testing. When compared to the currently existing most-favoured web browsers like Safari and Google Chrome, Opera 10.5 has been found to be the swiftest of them all.

Before the launch of Opera10.5, Safari and Google Chrome were considered to be the two fastest browsers, but Opera10.5 seems all set to overtake them, being fifteen percent and twenty percent faster than Safari and Google Chrome respectively. Other browsers also did not fare any better when compared with the speed of Opera10.5. The speed of Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 was found to be ten times slower, while Opera10.5 is two times faster than Mozilla Firefox 3.6.

Although the most unique feature of Opera10.5 is great speed, there are also other attractive features. It provides support for Windows 7’s Aero Peek and Jump List features. There is a better interface and the menus utilise less space. Privacy is also being taken care of. The user can mark any tab to be private and that will block the browsing history from getting stored.

The formal launch of this new browser will be in the near future but users can download the beta version to experience the benefits of using the fastest browser currently available.

Lower Income Families Lose out

Mobile telephone users from less well off households could be unable to access the market if the regulator presses ahead with plans to drastically slice the price of calls, the UK’s biggest mobile telephone company O2 has warned.

It was suggested that all of the main mobile telephone networks would increase their prices elsewhere in the value chain, possibly even mobile telephone recycling, in order to recoup the losses they were supporting as an effect of the pressure from the regulators. Smart phone users and those who normally get a free handset every 18 months could see their costs escalate.

Earlier this year the regulator proposed lofty cuts to mobile termination rates – the charge imposed by the networks on each other and fixed-line operators such as BT to connect calls – when the current price cap regime expires in 2011.

BT and the UK’s smallest network 3 have lobbied for them to be scrapped completely with their “terminate the rate” campaign.

A petition started by the two companies has already attained 70,000 signatures, including 200 from MP – all wanting to see the complete scrapping of these fees. The thinking behind this is that it is hoped that this would provoke the introduction of unlimited call bundles which are available in places like the USA for example. In addition, when calling from a landline to a mobile, this cost is likely to fall too.

However in its submission to the regulator as part of the consultation process on its plans, O2 charges the two companies of being “driven ..by self-interest” and warns that “sudden and dramatic changes to termination rates introduce a risk that the retail markets would be affected in a way that could harm, and not benefit, consumers”.

O2 believes that monthly contract charges, handset prices and the cost of calls could all go up. Prepay customers, who tend to receive more calls than they make, will be hard hit as the mobile telephone companies would have to slap “use by” dates on top-up credit. This would be especially painful for low-income households and younger consumers as many rely solely on pre-pay mobile phones and do not have a fixed phone line.

The reason is because 3G cell phone technology is capable of 2Mbs while WiFi is at 11Mbs in bursts and WiMax will be even greater therefore 3G is not needed as VoIP over WiMax is going to provide more data, faster speeds and greater numbers of users. There will be small legal battles fought such as this one over territory with government agencies and private sector. Right now 3G network is nearly complete and works good for phone calls and instant messaging, but is quite lacking for video or picture emailing. As new devices come out such as movie watching, music downloads, projection video, hologram messages, 3G, 4G even 5G and what some in the industry call 6G will not be able to use with the current 3G towers across the nation. Even with 1000:1 algorithm compression there is a limit on the devices and system. The Telecom Industry has taken a huge hit in the last five years with massive layoffs, accounting irregularities and overpriced bidding for frequency allocation, which amounted to investments based on pie in the sky wishful thinking potential consumer numbers even from a monopolistic standpoint, it was simply not possible. The frenzy to over pay for these frequencies was out of control and we saw the fallout occur as predicted by many an insider.
